In Condensate, excerpts from a 1970's 16mm educational film titled "Your Chance to Live" are re-edited and composited with 35mm slides taken from another source. The slides were allowed to decay over time, with the image on each becoming corroded, and transferring some of its photochemistry to its adjacent slide, creating an unusual organic cross dissolve. |

We are concerned with the theme of violence not the explicit bodily or disciplinary kind of violence, but the kind of violence which imperceptibly penetrates into the life of each of us and destroys our freedom. The media environment around us harbors quite a few sources of danger and compulsion, e. g. advertisements. The advertisements intrude into our audiovisual space, subjecting us imperiously to their rhythm, vocabulary, to say nothing of imposing things to choose. Our \"soaked hen\" is a (ironic) metaphor of a weak-willed object of violence. Soaking and drying the girl in front of the video camera we deliberately achieved commercial attractiveness and high image quality. There would be no difference between this work and any to which the model girl was exposed when the commercial was being shot.

Makeshift folklore for an uncertain world.
Shot in the Mexican state of Michoacan and constructed using the same techniques employed in the Surrealist parlor game of the “Exquisite Corpse”, this video holds a mirror up to the unseen, hallucinates and reflects it back into the everyday forever and ever and ever. The work is about “tourism” in every sense of the word: the fascination and fear of the strange/other, the obsessive need to document and record experience, and the destabilizing effect of foreign environments on identity. Real and imagined characters populate this two-part video in a continual reversal of roles, forcing the viewer to decide which is the real and which is the imaginary.
